About this course

Join the IOTA group for the Advanced Course on Gynecological Ultrasound, an ISUOG approved 5-day intensive course taking place in Malmö, Sweden from 19-23 January 2026. This comprehensive course is organized by Skane University Hospital and covers virtually everything of importance in gynecological ultrasound (except pelvic floor ultrasound).

The course features expert-led lectures, LIVE scanning sessions, interactive case presentations, and hands-on learning opportunities. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of ultrasound physics, examination techniques, image optimization, and the latest terminology including MUSA, IETA, IDEA, and IOTA.

Course Goal: After having participated in this course, participants should be able to use gynecological ultrasound in an optimal way in clinical practice.

Suitable for: Specialists in obstetrics and gynecology with at least basic knowledge and experience in gynecological ultrasound.

Tuesday, 20 January - Adnexal Masses

  • Pattern recognition for adnexal pathology
  • IOTA studies and terminology
  • Pathogenesis of ovarian cancer
  • Borderline ovarian tumors and metastases
  • Interactive case presentations

Wednesday, 21 January - Adnexal Masses & Uterine Pathology

  • Rare adnexal tumors and difficult cases
  • MUSA terminology for myometrial pathology
  • Benign and malignant myometrial lesions
  • IETA terminology for endometrial pathology
  • Role of ultrasound in abnormal bleeding
  • Management of incidentally detected findings

Thursday, 22 January - Endometriosis & Acute Gynecology

  • Endometriomas and deep infiltrating endometriosis
  • IDEA terminology
  • LIVE scanning for endometriosis
  • 3D ultrasound of the uterus
  • Adnexal torsion and pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Non-gynecological causes of pelvic pain

Friday, 23 January - Early Pregnancy Complications
